Boom Noodle....

What a busy weekend we have had!!!  On Friday night Emma went to a sleepover, Saturday, Lauren went to her school for the advanced learning testing and then immediately after the girls went swimming for 2 1/2 hours. Today we woke early and headed down to the Pacific Science Center to go to the Harry Potter Exhibit that is going on, tonight we will trick-or-treat and afterwards head over to Stacy and Eric's for a short Halloween get together.  Busy, Busy weekend!!! 

These shots are from Friday!!  Lauren was bummed that Emma got to go to a sleepover.  She was throwing a little pity party for herself so I asked her if she wanted to go out to dinner with just mom and dad.  Just think..out to dinner, your choice and NO EMMA!!  She jumped at the chance!!!   So I was thinking...here we go..a trip to Red Robin, but she surprised us and told us her new favorite restaurant is now Boom Noodle.  WOW!!  A Japanese restaurant?  Weird, since she eats a total of about four things: toast, quesadillas, mac and cheese and white rice!!  But she said she loves that place because they have the Bento boxes and WHITE rice!! She even eats the vegetable filled pot stickers! After dinner we walked around and did some shopping.  We got some cute new outfits from Crewcuts, some goodies from Crate and Barrel and some make-up from the MAC store!!  Fun!! 

Here are the shots from that night.  Of course, we were seated in the DARKEST place in the restaurant...so these were so grainy I was going to trash them...but then I decided to edit them with a little more grain to give them that "film" look!  Kind of fun!! 

Puppet Theatre...

Emma has been working on her class project for the past month.  The assignment was to read a book and then make a puppet that was a character in the book...that had movable parts.  So she choose the book, My Sister the Vampire Switched. Then she decided on making Ivy as her doll.  So her and Bart looked up doll patterns on the internet and found one that looked a lot like Ivy from the book.  They sent me to the fabric store to get all the supplies and then we all spent the next few weeks trying to make this fabric look like this girl on the cover of the book.  Not easy.  Not easy because none of us are great with sewing machines.  We started off with Emma's sewing machine which gave out halfway through.  Grrrr...frustrating.  After many attempts of re-threading and trying to figure out the problem, we gave up and pulled out MY sewing machine.  This is the sewing machine Bart bought me for Christmas 5 years ago and has been used maybe twice.  I wanted a simple, cheap sewing machine just to do some minor sewing.  But no...he bought me this ultra expensive, super complicated machine.  It has a huge manual on just threading it.  Gah!!!! So we haul this thing out, blow off the dust, it makes about 10 great stitches, gets jammed and the thread is a mess.  So two sewing machines down.  What do we do now with this doll that is all cut out and just laying there in pieces.  Well, I was done with it!  Couldn't Emma have just chosen a puppet made out of a paper sack??  Bart came to the rescue and helped her out.  They sat there and both of them hand stitched the entire doll.  Then I helped her with the face and hair.  What a project.  But once it was all done, she was so proud.  She did so great at her presentation and her classmates also had some super, creative puppets.

 

Last soccer game of the season......

Lauren had her last soccer game.  She did so well this season.  I was a little worried since the first game was full of nerves and tears.  She was afraid to even go out on the field.  Luckily that was short-lived and she ended up actually enjoying the sport!  She is a good little runner, but a little timid when she needs to get in there and steal the ball away.  She is more worried about kicking the other girl she said!!  ;)  Best part of the last game...coming home and drinking hot cocoa and having popcorn!!!  Oh and yes, the picture of the uniform all laid out...she did that and then requested I take a picture of it for the blog. LOL!!
